With 60 ponkan (Citrus reticulata Blanco) orchards located in Xiangxi autonomous prefecture, Hunan province, the soil nutrients, tree nutrients and fruit quality based on different soil pH value and tree age were investigated. According to the results, soil acidification was found in more than 70% of the investigated orchards. Most of the element nutrients were optimum or excess in the soil, but alkaline hydrolytic N, available B, exchangeable Ca and exchangeable Mg were deficient. In the leaves, except P and Mn contents optimum, contents of N, K, Ca, Mg and Zn were deficient, but Fe and Cu showed excess content. With the rise of soil pH value, exchangeable Ca, exchangeable Mg and available Cu contents increased in the soil, but available Fe and available Mn decreased.
