The mango quality deteriorated seriously in shelf life due to the lack of postharvest treatment conditions in mango production areas in China. In this study, the effect of spraying methyl jasmonate (MeJA) to growing fruit on the shelf-life quality of 'Hongguifei' mango was investigated. The results showed that, compared with control, treatment with 5mg/L of MeJA significantly reduced the disease severity and incidence of mango, delayed the yellowing of the pericarp, increased the TSS and Vc content of the pulp, and decreased the TA content of mango during the shelf life, indicating that MeJA treatment during the fruit growth period could maintain better appearance and nutritional quality of mango during the shelf life. At the same time, MeJA treatment inhibits the occurrence of postharvest anthracnose, reduced the CAT and POD activities and increased the contents of total phenolic compounds, total flavonoids and H2O2 in early-stage shelves, enhanced the CAT and POD activities and reduced H2O2 content in the late shelf-life stage. This study shows that the MeJA treatment at fruit growing period to maintain better shelf-life quality of mango is related to its enhancement of disease resistance of fruit.
